Step 7: How-To Ideas

BEFORE you progress to Step 7, your child should have mastered:

short vowel sounds
long vowel sounds
consonant sounds
vowel & consonant blending
marking short & long vowels



Step 7 expands reading skills to include two vowel words. In order to be successful at this point in the process, students should be comfortable marking vowels.

Introduce the following rules--one at a time and provide a lot of practice for each rule. Students should memorize the rules so that they can recite them quickly.
